I'm a picky perfectionist. I don't like anything less than perfect, especially when we're talking beauty treatments. I tend to only trust myself and if I end up trusting someone with my beauty routines, then I tend to stick to them. If I like something, I'll re-buy it and re-use it over and over until I find something better. After experimenting with a few different beauty treatments in 2019, only a couple stayed with me through 2020 - and trust me, they are worth it!
Here are my MUST-TRY beauty hacks for 2020.

If you read my post on my "Must-have 2020 Beauty Products" you probably remember me mentioning the eyelash curler. A great tool indeed. I actually only started using it about a year ago and after the first time I tried it I couldn't believe I never used it before... like seriously, what was I thinking?

I've been curling my lashes for a little over a year now and lucky for me my sister is in the process of opening a Sugaring Salon in Miami, Florida, which will also be offering Lash Lifts. So she had to practice - and you guessed it, I was her guinea pig. (PS. If you don't know what sugaring is, it's basically waxing but much MUCH better - but I'll keep the details on this for another post). Anyway, a few weeks ago she did it on me. I LOVED it. I can't believe how cute and curly my eyelashes look without needing to do anything at all. The best part is I wake up with lifted eyelashes and don't need to use the curler anymore. She also tinted them so they are darker. If I go out I add mascara for extra drama!

Details: The treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete. It's not the most comfortable treatment since you have your eyes closed the entire time - but well worth it. The treatment uses chemicals to lift the eyelash, just like a hair perm. No, it's not natural or organic but be mindful that nothing is pure magic. However, it's not harmful to the eyes and is 100% safe! The treatment lasts until your eyelashes naturally fall off - about 1.5 months.

Cost: About 100-150$ CAD

Verdict: Highly recommend!

I started doing hair Keratin a few years back but decided to add it to the list because I truly love it. Before I give you my review let me explain what Hair Keratin is. Basically, it's a semi-permanent hair straightening treatment that also helps with frizz, smoothens the hair and makes it much more manageable. This means that once applied to your hair, you'll get about 1.5-3 months of semi-straight hair, no baby hairs to worry about and no crazy frizz due to humidity. Heaven, right? But - it's not magic. In order for the treatment to work, the product your aesthetician will be using needs to have a chemical inside that's called formaldehyde. Every brand is different: some have high percentage of formaldehyde and some have very low percentage. And be careful... today many companies claim that their products are formaldehyde free. Trust me, they are not. There is no hair on earth that will magically straighten without the use of some chemical. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way.

Your job is to make sure that the product you'll be choosing won't have a high percentage of formaldehyde in it. The maximum allowed today on the market is 2%. Anything below this number is considered "safe".

So what's my take on it? I simply LOVE it. I can't say it enough. I'm so grateful that this treatment exists because it truly made my life much easier. For someone like me who was born with curly hair, there is absolutely nothing better than taking a shower and air drying your hair and not having to even touch the blowdryer. Now THAT'S heaven!

Details: Depending on your hair length it will take between 2-4 hours to complete the treatment. Once the treatment is finished, you can't wash your hair for 48 hours. You are also not allowed to pin it, tie it or wet it. It's a bit annoying but well worth the results!  Lasts about 1.5-3 months. For me personally, it last about 2.5 months (3 is a stretch).

Cost: Depending on your hair length and where you get it done, it ranges between 120-600$ CAD

Verdict: Highly recommend!

3. ALPHA BETA FACIAL PEEL by Dr Dennis Gross

The first time I tried this was at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Orlando, Florida. I was travelling for work and wanted to spoil myself a little bit between meetings. I've been looking for a good facial for a while and wanted something extra good - not just your regular hydrating facial that you pay 100$ for and the next day feel like you didn't even have one. I decided to go with a chemical peel since I knew I could't do it at home myself (it's very dangerous, you can burn your skin). The facial was honestly next level amazing. I left the treatment with brand new skin. I've never seen such immediate and obvious results. I felt like the first layer of my skin was removed and I was left with new fresh baby skin. So, if you're looking for one of those "skin changing" facials, I definitely recommend you try this one. Make sure the specialist is using Dr Dennis Gross products. PS. if you want to keep doing the "mini treatment" at home you can! Dr Dennis Gross offers an at-home Alpha Beta Facial Peel at Sephora and I highly recommend it. I use it once weekly.

Details: It takes about 1.5 hours to complete and includes a face cleaning, a chemical peel and moisturizing. You shouldn't do this treatment more than once a month.

Cost: Approximately 300$ CAD

Verdict: Highly recommend - you'll get addicted.

Eyebrow lamination is pretty much the same thing as a lash lift but for your brows. Essentially what it does is temporarily lift up the hairs of your eyebrows to make them look constantly brushed up - the perfect just-combed look. Personally, I don't think this treatment is for everyone but for some it can look really amazing. If your eyebrow hairs are semi-long and you have many of them, brow lamination will look great on you.

What I love about this treatment is that I find myself trying to achieve this look myself every morning when I do my brows. Usually I'll have to use mascara, hairspray or eyebrow gel to hold them up. Brow lamination eliminates the need to use any product. All you have to do each morning is simply brush them up and voilà!

Details: The treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete. Just like the lash lift, the treatment uses chemicals to lift the brow hair and make them hold in place. No, it's not natural or organic but be mindful that nothing is pure magic. However, it's 100% safe! With proper care, brow lamination lasts 4-8 weeks.

Cost: About 100-250$ CAD

Verdict: Highly recommend! Lamination is a great alternative to microblading because it works with your existing hair so it gives you an ideal brow look without the use of needles, ink use or pain.
